JANE NGUROTI ARERO
Desperate, confused, lonely and frustrated. Jane sat hopelessly next to a dustbin in Likii slums. My friend and I stood in concern and sympathy to talk to this desperate girl. She hesitated to answer our greetings and gave a deaf ear to our questions. Realising she was hungry, we requested her to follow us to a hotel for lunch, which she easily welcomed. It was in the hotel where Jane revealed to us about her life experience.
Jane Nguroti is now 13 years old. She is the second daughter to Mr.Arero Masikonte and the late Mrs. Nkoileton Arero. Her mother died in 2005, when she was in class 1 and was left under the care of the father. She has one elder sister, Jecinta, who is in form 3 and being sponsored by Ilamaiyo Foundation.
Jane was enrolled into HOME trust orphans programme at class 3 and immediately she joined Doldol boarding primary school. Jane is a bright girl and has all through been among the top pupils in class. We have now transferred her to Ilpolei boarding primary school which has better facilities including a computer laboratory. She is ambitious to become a computer engineer.
