Project information
HOME is a secular, indigenous, charitable Trust/ organization, which was established in 2006 and legally registered with the ministry of Lands and natural resources. It operates among the pastoral community of Laikipiak Maasai of Laikipia North. The trust is dedicated to the elimination of the facets of school dropouts by providing help and guidance to orphans.
HOME main project seeks to address social economic drawbacks affecting growth and development of orphans and vulnerable children, more so in fragile and unstable pastoralist environments prone to recurrent droughts and conflicts that are necessitated by unreliable rains, migration and poverty. It targets to strengthen as well the available cultural and traditional structures and values that favor cohesiveness, care and communal upbringing of children.
The Maasai people targeted are known for their gregarious life styles, living in societal uniqueness that are aligned with ancestry pedigrees and respects, however these elements of inheritance and social living are slowly being eroded along with the harsh vagaries of life.
The project will endeavour in all its efforts to highlight and educate the pastoralist communities on how they shall coexist better with the deadly disease, HIV/AIDS, that has now developed its lethal tentacles almost every doorstep.
